Infected Blood Inquiry Chair expresses disappointment at PHE hepatitis C report

Sir Brian Langstaff, the Chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry, has written to Public Health England expressing disappointment at the lack of attention paid to hepatitis C infection through blood transfusions in this year’s Hepatitis C in England report.
Sir Brian’s letter states that the report focuses on the risks associated with drug use at the expense of other transmission routes, such as blood transfusions.
Sir Brian said: “This approach risks perpetuating the failure to identify, test and diagnose people infected through transfusions. It also risks exacerbating the stigma felt by those infected through transfusion.
“I hope to reassure people infected through transfusions that the Inquiry takes seriously their calls for others to be identified, tested and treated.”
