The Infected Blood Memorial Committee has announced this week that there will be a national service of remembrance at St Paul’s Cathedral for the infected blood community next year, taking place on Tuesday 19 May 2026. Registration closes on 22 January 2026.
The Committee has also published an update covering the commemorative event at Church House in November, the Committee’s first meeting held earlier in December, and work undertaken so far for the memorials to the victims of the scandal.

Following questions from the community, the Infected Blood Memorial Committee has provided this update:
- “Why St Paul’s Cathedral? To hold a memorial at St Paul’s Cathedral is a statement of recognition by the State at the highest level, of all of us.
- Why now? We recognise that there is still so much to resolve but the Memorial Committee must act within the Terms of Reference that it has undertaken. Knowing that there may never be an ideal time, we felt it was necessary to hold this service now before too much time has lapsed since the Inquiry Report and the important recommendations it made.
- This is not just a tick box exercise, this is for us by us and it is up to all to make this as meaningful as we can.
- The monies for this do NOT come from compensation monies and so if we don’t hold a service that resource is lost to us.“
