On Wednesday (16 July), we met with Paymaster General and Minister for the Cabinet Office Nick Thomas-Symonds MP and Cabinet Office officials at our offices. Mr Thomas-Symonds received a tour, spoke with members of our staff, and heard about the work we do to support people with hepatitis C before sitting down to discuss our work relating to the infected blood scandal.
We highlighted what we frequently hear on our helpline and in our support groups, including how important it is that we see fairer compensation for people with hepatitis C and B, and that the process is delivered more quickly. This included suggestions on collaborative working in response to the recent additional Inquiry report.
We also discussed how the Government could meaningfully listen to and work with the community to shape the future of the compensation scheme, as well as the other Inquiry 2024 recommendations.
We eagerly await the Government’s response to the Inquiry’s new set of recommendations on compensation, and strongly urge them to accept them in full.
