We are on the cusp of becoming one of the first countries in the world to achieve the World Health Organization (WHO) goal of eliminating hepatitis C as a public health concern. But to get there, and equally importantly, to maintain this status, we need concerted effort from across Westminster and within the NHS. To secure this, we are hosting an event in Parliament in July – and we need your help by asking your MP to attend!
‘Hepatitis C Elimination: Celebrating Progress and Sustaining Success’, hosted by Peter Dowd MP on 9th July 2025 from 9:00 to 10:30am.
This event will allow parliamentarians to see the progress being made towards the elimination goal, receive information about local and regional successes, and discuss what will be needed in the maintenance phase.

I am writing to you today as your constituent to request that you attend The Hepatitis C Trust’s Parliamentary reception, ‘Hepatitis C Elimination: Celebrating Progress and Sustaining Success’, hosted by Peter Dowd MP on 9th July 2025 from 9:00 to 10:30am.
Hepatitis C is a devastating viral infection that left untreated, can lead to serious liver damage, even cancer. Thankfully, with the introduction ten years ago of medicine that can cure infections, we are on the cusp of becoming one of the first countries in the world to meet the World Health Organization’s criteria for eliminating the virus as a public health concern.
To get there, and more importantly to maintain this status, we need concerted effort from across Westminster and within the NHS. Your attendance and support would mean so much in this regard and, I would deeply appreciate your contribution to the continued success of a cause that is so close to my heart.
The event will provide an opportunity to see the progress being made towards the nation’s elimination goal, receive information about local and regional successes, and discuss what will be needed in the maintenance phase.
The Hepatitis C Elimination programme has been particularly effective engaging marginalised groups (with roughly 90% of hepatitis C infections being a result of IV drug use), so this event also provides a great chance to take some wider learnings for anyone interested in helping tackle the health inequalities our country faces.
The Elimination Programme has brought together incredible efforts in every community by the NHS, drug services, prison health teams, public health teams, outreach workers, charities, the pharmaceutical industry and patients, and The Hepatitis C Trust are excited to bring key stakeholders together with MPs and Peers to celebrate achievements to date and success in the future.
