It is with deep sadness that The Hepatitis C Trust announces the recent death of peer volunteer Jeff Clark.
Jeff had been volunteering with the Trust in the Bristol and Severn area since the beginning of 2024.
Despite knowing he had liver cancer, Jeff supported our awareness and testing events until he was too unwell to manage it.
Jade King, our Peer Support Lead for Probation and Approved Premises, who worked closely with Jeff, said:
“When I was offered a job with The Hep C Trust I knew I had to recruit some volunteers. I instantly thought of Jeff, who I first met three years earlier. He had not long completed his hep c treatment and I knew he had some knowledge to bring to the team.
“Jeff started volunteering for the Trust at the beginning of the year and was thrown into the needs assessments and tracking people who hadn’t completed treatment down. He loved the work as we had to travel all over the South West. It wasn’t long before Jeff learned that he had cancer but he wanted to continue volunteering as he said it had given him a purpose and enjoyed meeting new people.
“Sadly Jeff got ill pretty fast and was finding it hard to walk. He still came out with me a few more times and we just did meds deliveries and finished the day in a coffee shop, talking about our lives and how different they had become. Jeff was a bit of a coffee connoisseur and we would rate of the different coffee shops we’d been in whilst out working.
“Jeff became too unwell to come out with me anymore but we stayed in touch, I took him to a few appointments and visited him in hospital and even dropped him off a roast dinner which was his favourite.
“I feel truly grateful and privileged that I was able to be with him in his final hours and that he knew he meant something to not only me but the whole of the team at the Trust.”
