Co-ordinated by The Hepatitis C Trust, the Scottish Hepatitis C Parliamentary Champions are a cross-party selection of MSPs with a shared goal of ensuring that hepatitis C stays firmly on the political agenda in Scotland. By working together with The Hepatitis C Trust, the Champions ensure that the best interests of people with hepatitis C in Scotland are represented in the Scottish Parliament.
The Champions include MSPs from every political party in Parliament, and The Hepatitis C Trust is delighted to announce that Annie Wells MSP has agreed to become our latest Champion, bringing our group of cross-party supporters in the Scottish Parliament up to twelve.
With the support of our Parliamentary Champions, we recently launched our new report Eliminating Hepatitis C in Scotland: A Call to Action. The report brings together oral and written evidence from experts across Scotland collected over the course of 2017, and sets out practical steps that must be taken to ensure a hepatitis C-free Scotland.
Annie Wells MSP spoke on the cross-party panel introducing the new report, and enthusiastically agreed to continue advocating for hepatitis C patients as a Parliamentary Champion. We look forward to working with her in the coming months to increase the numbers of people getting tested and treated for hepatitis C in Scotland.
