This week, HCV Action is coordinating a hepatitis C ‘action week’ in Leeds, aimed at raising awareness of the virus in the West Yorkshire region.
The action week is the second of 2017, following a similar week of events in Cambridge which took place in May. A further action week is due to take place in Cardiff later this year.
As the centre point of the action week, HCV Action will lead a Hepatitis C Good Practice Roadshow on Wednesday (6th September), bringing together health professionals, drug service workers, public health specialists and others from across West Yorkshire. The event, taking place at the Thackray Medical Museum, will highlight local good practice and act as a forum for discussion about local challenges and solutions surrounding hepatitis C.
The roadshow will feature a range of talks and workshops on topics such as local epidemiology, treatments and possibilities for elimination, and the hepatitis C commissioning landscape. The event will also include patient perspectives and good practice case studies from the local area.
On Friday (8th September), HCV Action will coordinate a visit by Hilary Benn, MP for Leeds Central, to a local health service. During the visit he will meet clinicians and hepatitis C patients to discuss local issues, patient experiences, and what more can be done to eliminate the virus. Hilary Benn has been the MP for Leeds Central since 1999, and has served in the cabinets of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, as well as the Labour Party shadow cabinet from 2010 to 2016.
A limited number of places for the roadshow are still available and can be booked here.
