HCV Action hepatitis C ‘action week’ in Cambridge starts on Monday

Starting on Monday, HCV Action will be holding a hepatitis C ‘action week’ in Cambridge, aimed at raising awareness of the virus in the region. As part of the action week, HCV Action is running a roadshow event for healthcare professionals, coordinating a visit for a local politician to meet with hepatitis C patients, and raising awareness of the virus in a Cambridge mosque.
HCV Action’s hepatitis C roadshow, organised with Public Health England, will take place on Tuesday (9th May) at Robinson College. The roadshow is focused on showcasing and sharing good practice in the prevention, testing, diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C, and identifying specific issues and potential solutions for tackling hepatitis C in the Cambridge and East of England region. On Wednesday (10th May), HCV Action will be coordinating a visit by Daniel Zeichner to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Zeichner was MP for Cambridge until the recent dissolution of Parliament and is standing as a candidate in next month’s general election. During the visit he will meet with hepatitis C patients to discuss their experiences of living with the virus.
The final event of the action week will take place on Friday (12th May), with Shabana Begum, The Hepatitis C Trust’s South Asian Projects Officer, visiting the Abu Bakr Masjid Mosque in Cambridge from midday. She will be speaking to members of the mosque about hepatitis C and carrying out testing during the visit. Raising awareness in the South Asian community is crucial, with particularly high rates of hepatitis C infection among the population.
