The Hepatitis C Trust has won a Communique Award for Excellence in Media Relations for its work with Paradigm Communications, in launching the report from the All-Party Parliamentary Hepatology Group’s expert Inquiry into the burden of liver disease.
The report, ‘Liver Disease: Today’s Complacency, Tomorrow’s Catastrophe’ was produced by The Hepatitis C Trust in March 2014 alongside the All-Party Parliamentary Hepatology Group as their secretariat, and draws attention to the rising tide of avoidable deaths from liver disease, as well as making a number of recommendations to improve outcomes from its major causes of hepatitis C and B, alcohol misuse and obesity.
The broadcast-focused media launch of the report reached over 100 million people in less than 24 hours, and contributed to putting pressure on the UK Government, NHS England and Public Health England to meet with the APPHG to consider the report’s recommendations. PHE has since agreed to a programme of work for tackling liver disease, now expected to be released in Autumn 2015.
