Helpline

Role Description
The Helpline has been set up to provide an information and support service for those affected by or interested in hepatitis C. With this in mind we only take on volunteers who have, or who have had and cleared hepatitis C.

Volunteers will be expected to commit to at least one three hour shift per week to ensure continuity - shifts are currently from 10.30 to 1.30 or from 1.30 to 4.30 Monday to Fridays. All helpline work is based at our office at London Bridge.

On site training, supervision and support for volunteers is provided by the Helpline Manager.

We value the work of volunteers and aim to provide a friendly working environment in a mutually supportive atmosphere. It is hoped that volunteers will in turn benefit from extending their existing skills and also increase their own personal knowledge and awareness of issues around hepatitis C.

Helpline volunteers will be expected to provide information and support to those affected by hepatitis C. A willingness to share your own experience where appropriate, can also be helpful to callers.

Skills Required
Good interpersonal skills are required, i.e. the ability to speak to people on the telephone in a friendly and efficient manner. The ability to use a computer and the internet (primarily our website) for information retrieval and basic database skills is desirable but not essential as training will be provided if needed.

Have the ability to work as a team and a willingness to assist the team in other general tasks as may be required eg. Helping with mail-outs or looking up specific information. General administrative skills are desirable.

We will provide:
Training in helpline skills, office procedures and use of office equipment
Reimbursement of travel expenses
Support and ongoing supervision
