Writing to your MP can have a real impact. After all, as their electorate, you keep them in a job!
Help our campaign
You can write to ask your MP and the Public Health Minister to support our plea for a mass public awareness campaign about hepatitis C.
First, double check who your local MP is. If you are unsure, you can find out by clicking on the link at the right of the page and entering your postcode.
Second, download our draft MP letter at the right of the page and personalise it with your name, address, age, town and any other details you would like to add.
Third, download our draft Minister letter at the right of the page and personalise it with your name, address, age, sex and any other details you would like to add.
Request help for your situation
You can write to your MP regarding your own personal experiences of hepatitis C and the standard of care you have received from your local health service. If you think you have received sub-standard care and treatment, then you can ask your MP to write to your local PCT or Hospital Trust to ask them to improve their services.
If you are writing a letter to your MP about your personal experiences, then follow our 5-point plan below:
- Always introduce yourself as their constituent, e.g. “I am writing to you as my local MP….”
- Be polite and positive, and if you have time, thank your MP for their reply.
- Use your own words – this makes your letter more personal and means it will probably be given more attention.
- Keep it short. One side of paper is usually sufficient and long rambling letters won’t win you any favours with busy staff.
- If you would like your MP to take action on your case then be clear on what you would like them to do.
All MPs can be reached in writing at: House of Commons, Westminster, London, SW1A 0AA. They should be addressed using their name followed by ‘MP’, for example, ‘Joe Bloggs MP’ then simply begin the letter, ‘Dear Joe Bloggs’.
