What did you do before joining The Hepatitis C Trust? Before joining the Trust, I did a bit of volunteering work in Cornwall, working with vulnerable adults who were often affected by substance misuse issues. I was in early recovery myself and starting to get my foot into the workplace – gaining bits of part time work where I could.

On July 29th the chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry Sir Brian Langstaff recommended that people affected by the infected blood scandal should now be offered interim compensation, if they are already registered with existing support schemes.

We would like to invite you to a World Hepatitis Day event at our office in London on Thursday 28th July 2022 ·      Get tested for hepatitis C by our trained staff with a result within 20 minutes. The only way to know is to have a test, not routinely offered, and it is estimated around 80,000 people in the UK remain undiagnosed!

Sir Brian Langstaff, Chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry, today made a statement announcing that he is considering exercising his powers to make a recommendation that as soon as is practicable interim payments should be made to those affected by the infected blood scandal and, if so, the scope of those interim payments.

The Hepatitis C Trust would like to thank all who attended our World Hepatitis Day reception event in parliament this morning, in advance of World Hepatitis Day itself on July 28th. The event was a great opportunity to bring together staff from The Hepatitis C Trust - including members of our peer teams from across the country – with supportive parliamentarians and representatives from NHS Operational Delivery Networks, NHS England, pharmaceutical partners in the NHS England hepatitis C elimination deal, and others.

The Hepatitis C Trust will be holding groups next week to discuss Sir Robert Francis’ Infected Blood Compensation Study. This will be a chance for people affected to discuss the report and its recommendations. All are welcome. The sessions will be held online via Zoom on: -          Tuesday 5th July, from 12.30 to 2pm -          Thursday 7th July, from 3 to 4.30pm Please email helpline@hepctrust.org.uk to register to attend.

With UK drug deaths at their highest recorded levels, more than 90 organisations and 240 individuals have signed an open letter calling on the Government to amend the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001, which would make it easier to establish pilot Overdose Prevention Centres. This is an easy step that would not require primary legislation.
