The Hepatitis C Trust are running an online (Zoom) Support and Information Group, open to everyone in the Infected Blood Community, which will be held on Tuesday April 12th 2022 from 5pm – 6.30pm. This confidential group is there to offer support and information to anyone who was infected/affected by contaminated blood issues – eg the Infected Blood Inquiry, compensation framework, payment schemes, or anything related to hepatitis C, and will be facilitated by Sam May and Susan Stretch from the Hepatitis C Trust Helpline.

The Paymaster General, Michael Ellis MP, has responded to a letter from the Infected Blood Inquiry chair Sir Brian Langstaff about the publication timetable for the Government’s now-completed study of options for an infected blood compensation framework.

Cabinet Office Minister Michael Ellis has today provided an update on behalf of the Government on the study looking at options for an infected blood compensation framework. The statement confirms that Sir Robert Francis QC, who led the study, delivered his report to the Government on Monday 14th March. The minister thanked all those who contributed to the study by sharing their experiences and views with Sir Robert.

The latest 'Hepatitis C in England 2022' report from the UK Health Security Agency has been published, with recommendations on the actions needed to reduce incidence, increase testing, and improve linkage into care. The latest annual report shows there has been considerable progress towards eliminating hepatitis C as a public health problem by 2030 in England, with data showing that deaths from hepatitis C have fallen by 35% between 2015 and 2020.   The Infected Blood Inquiry has opened registration for people who would like to attend hearings on blood transfusion policy and practice this month. The hearings will be those of weeks beginning 21 and 28 February, and the latest timetable can be found here.

The Department of Health and Social Care have released a press statement encouraging bereaved partners to come forward before 1 April 2022, to benefit from possible backdated payments to April 2019.  Changes introduced in March 2021 mean bereaved partners not yet registered with the England Infected Blood Support Scheme (EIBSS) will now be entitled to annual payments.
