A loving daughter whose mum underwent a liver transplant has raised funds to help others in the same situation.

Andrea Cook pledged to help raise money to help raise awareness into liver problems after her mum Wendy Richardson contracted Hepatitis C.

Wendy, 49, from Tristram Avenue, Hartlepool, had a liver transplant at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle in August 2007. She was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2003, but was told that the disease had lain dormant since the birth of Andrea's sister Sarah Richardson, now 30, in 1978. It is believed Andrea contracted the disease from infected blood during a blood transfusion.

Following her mum's transplant, Andrea vowed to raise money and awareness of the disease and she organised a fundraising event for the charity Liver North.

The event, which was held in the Belle Vue Social Club in February, helped Andrea raise £2,700 for the charity.

Andrea, 33, who is now a carer for her mother and lives with her family in Oxford Road, said: "It was a brilliant night and we had a lot of support.

"Hartlepool United gave us a signed football to auction, and we also had a ride in a limousine and some other great items up for auction.

"I would also like to thank everyone who showed their support."
Andrea also said a special thanks to Hartlepool company Niramax Recycling and Manufacturing, which donated £700.

She added: "I am constantly thinking of new ways to raise money now.

"People have suggested skydiving and water-rafting, but we'll have to see about those!"

Andrea, who is married to Robert, 32, and has two children Lauren, 14 and Andrew, 12, said: "We raised £1,000 through the Boxing Day Dip, and it would be good to do that again. The more we can raise for the charity, the better.

"My mam has recovered well since the transplant, but it is good to be able to help others in the same situation in the future."
