Scotland - Clinical guideline published on management of hepatitis C

The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) has published a clinical guideline on the management of hepatitis C, which covers testing, prevention of secondary transmission, referral, children and hepatitis C, acute hepatitis C, assessment of liver disease, progression of untreated disease, treatment of chronic hepatitis C (CHC), treatment of advanced infection, nutrition, supportive care and complementary therapies, and information for discussion with patients and carers.

The guidelines recommend that the following patient groups should be considered for treatment with pegylated interferon (IFN) and ribavirin:

Patients with mild CHC
Patients with CHC and normal ALT
Patients with chronic hepatitis B and co-infection
Patients with CHC who are on a drug treatment programme
Children with evidence of moderate or severe liver disease
