FIGHTING THREAT OF VIRUS - 19 September 2006 - This Is Plymouth
A Plymouth support charity is running a campaign next week to raise awareness of hepatitis.
The Eddystone Trust will be holding information stands and a training day in the city whose aims are preventing hepatitis from becoming the next global epidemic.
Maureen Bromage, from the trust, said the group's main aim for this year was to raise awareness of both hepatitis B and C in terms of transmission, prevention and to give a general understanding of the viruses which in turn would make people more informed about the viruses.
Maureen said: "This will be the key to everything else - to people coming forward for testing, for those living with the virus and for people who may need treatment. Without such an awareness campaign, we couldn't be able to reach the people who have been at risk or are at risk."
Eddystone will be holding an information stall at the University of Plymouth on Wednesday, September 27 and another in the city centre on Friday, September 29. It is also running a whole day training session on hepatitis B and C in the city on Tuesday, September 26.

The Eddystone Trust has been running a hepatitis C awareness campaign since 1999. This year it has gone global with recognition from the World Health Organisation, and Sir Bob Geldof will be adding his voice to that of hepatitis patient groups on World Hepatitis Awareness Day on October 1. 035
