Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross wants to know how the local health authority is treating hepatitis sufferers. His intervention comes after a report revealed that up to half-a-million people in England and Wales might be infected by hepatitis C, but only 50,000 have been diagnosed, and access to treatment is uneven.
A recent audit conducted by the Hepatitis C Trust, and published by the Parliamentary all part hepatology group, showed only eight per cent of primary care trusts have responded to the government's action plan to improve services.
Mr Younger-Ross is calling for more effective action, and declared: "The audit shows that 36 per cent of trusts are not implementing, or only minimally implementing the action plan.
"Not only does this mean proper care for those suffering depends on where they live, but this lack of urgency to address the situation could result in major health implications for the whole country."
