On July 1st 2005 our Helpline (0870 200 1 200) will celebrate its first anniversary.

This essential service has received over 1700 calls in its first year from patients, professionals and the general public. Staffed by our Helpline Manager Samantha May and a team of trained volunteers, (all of whom are patients) we have received excellent feedback from callers.

Here are some of the comments made about the service:

Excellent, friendly and professional service
We will use you as a resource for clients and professionals to maximise the health gains for those with hepatitis C
Very approachable, enthusiastic staff, very quick response to enquiries and good information material
Excellent service and a huge relief to find a source of reliable and comprehensive information
It felt good talking to someone who understands hepatitis C, it made me feel better

In 2004 we were pleased to receive the Most Innovative Publicity award from the Telephone Helplines Association, (of which we are a member), and British Telecom. We will continue to improve the service and develop new ways to raise awareness and provide support to those affected by hepatitis C.

The Hepatitis C Trust would like to extend a special thank you to all our volunteers on the Helpline, past and present, for their commitment not only to the work and ethos of the Trust but also to all the callers they have assisted and supported over this last year.

We would also like to thank all the funders of this project for enabling us to start up and maintain this much needed service, including The Henry Smith Charity, The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation, CHK Charities, Schering-Plough Ltd and Roche Products Ltd.
