Nationally Co-ordinated Hepatitis C Look-back Exercise
The Health Protection Agency has co-ordinated a lookback, or patient notification, exercise involving some 2350 former hospital patients in eight NHS Trusts in England and one Health Board in Scotland. The exercise is an extension of an original lookback carried out in 2003 when 432 patients in Kent, Berkshire and Essex were contacted and offered testing. The lookback was carried out as a precautionary measure and in accordance with central guidance on this process after it was disclosed that a health care worker who previously worked at these hospitals had been diagnosed as suffering from hepatitis C infection.
