Walking for World Hepatitis Day – and other exciting activities

We’re excited to celebrate World Hepatitis Day next Sunday 28th July. This is a fantastic opportunity to recognise how far we have come in hepatitis C care, as well as to continue to drive for increased testing and treatment.

We have organised events all over the country to raise awareness of hepatitis C and provide testing services. We have also partnered up with lots of other organisations to help them with information and resources. To coordinate all the activities going on around hepatitis C in the next few weeks we have developed a map with details of the events going on across the UK.

While we pack off T-shirts and leaflets to be sent to organisations around the country for their services and testing events, over thirty of our staff and peer volunteers are also busy preparing for our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge fundraising walk this weekend. The challenge demands that everyone completes all three major peaks of the Pennine range in Yorkshire in less than 12 hours. Trust staff and peers have been training for weeks to complete the 24-mile trail, which also includes 5,200 feet (over 1.5km) of ascent.

The walk will fund our work towards eliminating hepatitis C by 2025, and in particular support the work of our peers. Peer work has a vital role to play in ensuring that everyone is tested and helped to access treatment. This will mean that no one is left behind as we approach elimination. To show your support for our staff undertaking the Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 20th July please donate on our page here.

Recent school-leavers Gus Bartlett and Daniel Peppe are also embarking on a fundraising walk for The Hepatitis C Trust. Today, they began ‘the hardest trail in Europe’, the GR20 route in Corsica, and hope to complete it in just over two weeks. You can read more about their motivation and donate by visiting their page here.

Finally, keep an eye out for announcements of support from politicians from all different parties over the next week or so, as well as a particularly exciting event we will be taking part in next Friday 26th July – more will be revealed on the day!
