The All Party Parliamentary Hepatology Group (APPHG) is a cross-party group of MPs and Peers who help raise awareness of hepatitis C and liver disease in Parliament and in the media. The Group has produced several well respected reports on hepatitis C in the UK, which you can read here
The current officers for the group are:
David Amess MP, Co-Chair - Conservative MP for Southend West
 | | | “It has been my pleasure to co-chair the All-Party Parliamentary Hepatology Group for over 6 years. During this time we have raised important issues around hepatitis C awareness and services to Ministers and the media and put the issue firmly on the Government’s agenda. I look forward to continuing our work and to helping to make sure the current changes to the NHS benefit hepatitis C patients and all liver patients.” |
David Amess has been a long-serving member of the APPHG and has been a Chair of the group for many years. We are grateful for his excellent work over the years and continued support.
Baroness Masham of Ilton, Co-Chair - Cross-bench Peer
 | | Baroness Masham is also a long-time and dedicated member of the group. She is a hard working House of Lords campaigner on many health issues. She is President or Vice-President of over 25 organisations so we are lucky that she still finds time to work so tirelessly on behalf of hepatitis C patients. |
Baroness Randerson, Co-Chair - Liberal Democrat Peer
 | | “I am delighted to be able to support the APPHG and to have been elected as co-chair. I have campaigned for better diagnosis and treatment for Hepatitis C patients for several years. Liver disease in general is too often ignored when health priorities are discussed. It is simply unacceptable that we accept a rise in deaths from liver disease when so many of these deaths can be prevented. I am determined to do whatever I can in the House of Lords to raise these issues up the political agenda.” |
Baroness Randerson is a former member of the Welsh Assembly who previously supported the work of the Trust in Wales. We are now pleased to welcome her as a new member of the APPHG and look forward to working with her in the future.
Virendra Sharma MP, Vice-Chair - Labour MP for Ealing Southall
 | | Virendra Sharma represents a constituency with a high number of people from South Asian communities. Research has shown that prevalence amongst this group is higher than the general population and we look forward to working with him in the future to raise awareness on this issue. |
Jason McCartney MP, Vice-Chair - Conservative member for Colne Valley
 | | “I first became involved with issues related to hepatology through my campaigning on behalf of the victims of the Contaminated Blood scandal. Thousands were infected with Hepatitis C, HIV and even CJD by contaminated blood products in the 1970s and 1980s. I’m proud to be the new Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for hepatology and look forward to helping to raise awareness of the effects of the virus in the UK and around the world.” |
Jason McCartney joined Parliament at the 2010 General Election. A local constituent brought the issue of hepatitis C to his attention and we are delighted that he has chosen to become an active member of the APPHG and dedicate his Parliamentary time to this important issue.
