Policy and Parliamentary

The Hepatitis C Trust’s policy and public affairs team work to improve hepatitis C risk awareness, testing, diagnosis, treatment and patient support. We aim to educate the public, the healthcare profession and politicians about hepatitis C. As a patient organisation, our policies are developed by patients and are informed by our projects working with patients across the UK. WHD 2011

We work in close collaboration with leading experts in all areas of hepatitis C healthcare to ensure that we advocate patient centred, research based, workable proposals and solutions to policymakers across the UK.

We work to effect change by communicating our policies through meaningful dialogue with policy makers across the country. For example, one of the ways in which we work to achieve our policy goals is through our Parliamentary work.

Our parliamentary and devolved-assembly champions from across the political spectrum are crucial partners in raising awareness of hepatitis C and lobbying for a more robust response. We work with politicians from the devolved governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as the UK Parliament and local government. The Trust provides the secretariat for the Westminster All-Party Parliamentary Hepatology Group.

Following our recent success in securing the development of a national liver disease strategy with hepatitis C as a core component, the Trust is working hard to ensure that the Government’s proposed changes to the NHS benefit hepatitis C patients.
