When will the new drugs be available?
Both Boceprevir (Victrelis) and Telaprevir (Incivo, Invivek) have now been licensed - not NICE approved which means that they can now be prescribed but a certain amount of persuasion may be needed to get someone to fund it. Alternatively a patient may pay for it themselves. We are expecting them to be NHS approved between spring and summer 2012.
In extreme cases where a patient may need to do treatment immediately it may be available on the NHS.
Both drugs are due to be assessed for their cost and clinical effectiveness by NICE mid 2012 at which time the NHS will have to offer them to everybody if they are approved.
