Is erectile dysfunction caused by hepatitis C? Although erectile dysfunction has been reported in patients with chronic hepatitis C, it seems unclear whether this is related to the virus, the subsequent liver disease or to interferon treatment.

A recent Italian study of men with hepatitis C found nearly 3 times as many cases of erectile dysfunction as in a similar group of men who were hepatitis C negative. There was a suggestion that it was in fact the virus that was responsible but, as so often in trials, there were other factors that complicate the data. There is no definitive answer to this question.
